Anton Gill a travaillé pour la English Stage Company, le Arts Council de Grande-Bretagne et la BBC, avant de devenir écrivain à plein temps en 1984. Il a écrit plus de vingt livres, la plupart portant sur l'histoire contemporaine, notamment The Journey Back from Hell: Conversations with Concentration Camp Survivors (qui a remporté le H. H. Wingate Award), A Dance Between Flames: Berlin Between the Wars, An Honourable Defeat: A History of the German Resistance to Hitler et Peggy Guggenheim: Life of an Art Addict.
